The finale of the ABC’s multi-million dollar drama series Crownies drew only 457,000 viewers last night, failing to make it into the top 15 programs.
The result is well down on the program’s debut of 706,000 and helps the public broadcaster justify its decision not to renew the show.
The young legal drama will not return next year although ABC1 is considering a spin-off. Last week ABC1 Channel Controller Brendan Dahill told TV Tonight he was “genuinely surprised (Crownies) didn’t engage a bigger audience than it did.”
